31 Oct 2006 , New Delhi : Hyundai Motor India
(HMI) achieved a significant milestone when HMIL's
flagship brand Santro which is called "Atos
Prime" in the overseas market was loaded
for shipment at the Chennai port today. This was
the 300,000th car which was exported.
HMIL, India's largest exporter
of cars & India's second largest car manufacturer,
achieved this remarkable distinction within less
than 7 years, starting from December 1999 to this
date. The fastest 200,000th export car was rolled
out in year 2005 in the month of October. HMI
crossed the next one lakh car in less than a year
which again makes this 300,000 th roll-out the
fastest export roll-out in the industry.
With quality of Hyundai cars
now acknowledged, the J.D Powers study etc., worldwide
demand for Hyundai cars has seen an increase.
The export order bagged this year reflects an
overall increase of 22% i.e. 123,113 units in
year 2006 (Santro-110,394, Accent-12,719) compared
to 100,774 units (Santro-91201, Accent-9573) units
in year 2005. The company is also foraying into
new markets to reach more and more global customers.
Presently, Hyundai India is exporting
Santro and Accent mainly to Europe, Africa Latin
America and Middle East.
The enormous demand for Hyundai
products in the domestic and overseas markets
makes it imperative for HMIL to expand capacity.
The second plant which is under construction will
double Hyundai's capacity to 600,000 units per
annum by the time it commences production in early
2008. Out of the 600,000 units HMIL expects to
export about 50% of the production.
Commenting on the company's export
performance Managing Director HMI, Mr. H.S Lheem
said, "Today Hyundai has become synonymous
with quality craftsmanship and Hyundai brands
have become very popular both here in India as
well as the overseas market. The export of 300,000
cars is ample proof of that. Hyundai is currently
India's largest exporter in the automobile industry,
and we are extremely keen to maintain our competitiveness
in this sphere. Our recent investments plans are
in line with this and the need to make India the
global hub for Hyundai's small car."
